What would YOUR child do if someone forced their way into your home and no one else was there?

Police say at about 4 p.m. on September 14, Craig J. Getzloff rang the doorbell at a home in Boise, ID.

Getzloff is a suspect in several burglaries in the Boise area.

The 11-year old boy who was at home didn't answer the door for a stranger.

According to the boy, Getzloff then entered the home from an unlocked back door.   The boy hid in another room, locked that door, and called his dad, who called police on his way home.

When the police arrived, they found Getzloff being held by the boy's father.  Shockingly, Getzloff was discovered to be in the possession of prescription drugs that were not his own.

Police and neighbors are now calling the boy a 'hero.'

Boise Police spokeswoman Lynn Hightower said, "This young man, and his family, should be pretty proud of themselves today. Because he did all the right things in what just had to be a really frightening situation."

Getzloff says the whole thing is a misunderstanding, and that he thought it was a friend's house.

My kids have been taught to dial 9-1-1, and they know my contact number by heart.  They are not often alone in the house, but I am certain that if either of them were in this situation, the cops or I would arrive before the burglars even knew the kids were still in the house.

Of course, in my case, the dog would already have eaten some of their favorite appendages.

So, what about your family?  Do they know what to do in an emergency?  Would they keep calm and do the right things?  It's up to you to prepare them!
