Self-defense on the "ground" is probably the most uncomfortable thing to learn for most women.  There is no "personal space".  It's hard to move.  It's too much like a real sexual assault.  That, of course, is why it's so very important.
Real self defense while being held down isn't really like the wrestling these ladies are doing, but just by training, they are developing a familiarity with the ground that will prevent panic.

Most women, if they train on the ground at all, will not actually want to learn to wrestle.  Fortunately, it is not necessary for them to wrestle.  What IS necessary is for them to know what it is like to be held down, to know what their options are, and to keep a cool head.

The emotional aspect is exactly what A Personal Defense seeks to train.  By working with a coach in a controlled environment, this very uncomfortable scenario becomes familiar and controllable.  Then escape becomes a real possibility

I hope all women take the time to at least experience some grappling training.  Don't wait until it's for real.

While it is true women would have a heightened sense of anxiety and fear, especially when someone three times their strength is on top of them, but as a guy, I'm not comfortable either on the ground. Panic and clostraphoia can set in pretty quick, at least for me. It would do well for all of us to learn a few techniques and get comfortable on the ground. Thanks Jim for this post.
