Part 1 was about basic strategy when facing more than one attacker.

Now we cover your escape.

Know your exit and work towards it.  If the attack is drawn out more than a few seconds, you are going to get really tired.  There is no good way for it to end once they swarm on you.  You must escape.  Use every weapon and trick at your disposal.

Here's a little game that starts to prepare you a bit for the multiple attacker scenario.  It's based on flag football.
You have a flag stuck in your belt in the back, like a tail.  You also have a goal that represents the escape.  It could be a door or just a spot marked out somehow.  Your partners are between you and the goal.  Their goal is to get your flag before you get to the goal.

For you to win, you must keep them in front of you, yet you must make your way to the exit.  No one gets to punch or tackle you, though you probably should be allowed to grab and push them.

That's it!  It won't take long to realize how easy it is for two or more people to get around you where you are an easy target.  That awareness is the first step.

What a great drill. I was always good at flag football. :) One "Burn Notice" technique was to get your attackers into the corner. The theory was it made for a bigger target and two heads to hit as you made your escape. Does this make sense?

Mike,
You have to keep them lined up and in front of you anyway. If you can shove the front one into the back one, that's always a good move. If that puts them in a corner, so much the better!
