"Faced with the choice of socking your opponent in the head or poking him in the eyes, you go for the eyes every time." ~ Bruce Lee

Did you ever attend a self-defense class, or see self-defense videos somewhere that start with the "someone grabs your wrist" scenario?  Usually, there is a 2-5 step response to the "attack" that ends in some kind of control hold.  Sometimes, punching is involved.

I have trained in many such responses myself, and they are useful to understand leverage and weak spots, but they often ignore the obvious - poke him in the eye!

It's easy to poke someone in the eye if they are close enough to touch.  Do you have to train your eye pokes for an hour a day to make them effective?  NO!  Can you do it if you are much smaller than the other person?  YES!  A 6 year old child could not attack a full grown man's eyes - unless that man tried to pick the child up.  Then it's easy, and it works.  You don't need special strength or speed to make it work.  You need a hand at the end of a working arm.  That's a pretty low prerequisite.  It works because everyone with eyes has a weakness there.  Godzilla would react to a poke in the eye.

Personal Defense is not complicated.  Someone wants to hurt you, you stop them.  Simple.  Someone grabs your wrist, or your lapel, or throat - go for the eyes!  Pit YOUR strength against their weakness.

That pretty much sums up what A Personal Defense is all about!
