Hollywood rarely gets it right.  Action movies in the vein of "The Transporter" are more like cartoons than anything else.  TAKEN with Liam Neeson is an action movie that gets it right.

There are movie contrivances to be sure, but underlying all of that is a very realistic and practical worldview.
When Neeson's character learns that his daughter wants to go to Europe with her friend, his first instinct is that it is trouble.  He offers to come along, which of course would have ended the movie there.

When he concedes to the plan, he gets his daughter a cell phone that will work internationally and programs in his number. His rules are all about his daughter letting him know where she is and what she's doing so trouble can be identified as early as possible.

Of course, trouble comes when his daughter is kidnapped.  In some of the most tactically impressive fight sequences I have ever seen, he goes to get her back.  Ex-SAS soldier Mick Gould clearly brought his experience to the set as technical adviser.

I think every teenage girl should have to watch this movie with her dad.  If you like action movies, and if you are interested in seeing an example of a focused, persistent, and practical mindset, TAKEN should be on your "must see" list!

AMEN and AMEN! This movie not only rocks as a story, it is so politically incorrect I'm surprised it made it onto the big screen. While there are some moments that are a little unrealistic (i.e. going unarmed into a "hostile" building filled with gunmen) how the scenes are treated actually make sense. IF one found oneself in that situation, one would have to realistically get out THAT way.
